For me, family photography is a form of investment, in that its real value is less in the moment itself, than in the years to come. When I photograph my own family, it's a way of gifting this moment in time to the version of me that won't get to see it for herself. This moment of raising a young family is so fleeting that I itch to freeze it; it is also of course, a period of reduced incomes, added expenses, and perpetual time-poverty.
